Shooting in a professional studio set-up in London, with a professional model, makeup artist/hairstylist, using the GFX50S II and GFX100s System large format cameras. This workshop is designed to help you follow a creative brief/concept, improve your beauty/portrait lighting skills and learn camera settings and shooting techniques – including tethered shooting and editing with Capture One, to achieve that commercial look.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

How to work with a creative team – makeup artist, hairstylist, stylist. Differences between light shapers and their effects and uses. Using backgrounds and sets for effect. Fashion and beauty lighting techniques for creative portraits. Model direction and posing. How to compose for shooting a magazine cover. Camera settings, exposure, composition and lens choice. How to work and communicate successfully with your creative team. Tethered shooting using Capture One – and its benefits for a comprehensive workflow.

ON THE DAY

The session starts at 11:30am; we will dive straight into our first set-up, following a brief to shoot a basic beauty campaign for a magazine cover. Small group sizes mean plenty of hands-on shooting experience – and personal one-to-one guidance and direction from Wayne Johns. After a short lunch break, it’s straight back into the studio for the second session of creative themed portraits on a creative set. The day finishes at around 5:30pm, with a debrief, a review of your best image and Q&A session.

YOUR COURSE LEADER : WAYNE JOHNS

Wayne Johns is a London-based fashion, beauty and portrait photographer and director – commissioned regularly for clients in the UK and overseas. Wayne is best known for his crisp and emotive imagery, gaining international recognition as a ‘master of lighting techniques’ – and his artistic approach, in both stills and moving image. He is an Official Arri Lighting Ambassador and also a FUJIFILM X Ambassador, using the X Series and GFX System. His enjoyment of life, passion and creativity are fuelled by everything the world has to offer – and anything that surrounds him at any given time. He is an artist with a camera and light.
